Lunch and Learn Lecture - Marine Mammals
Friday 10 February 2017, 12:00pm - 01:00pm
Contact Erin Lomax 772-466-1600 x3337

Join us as we welcome Mr. Steve Burton, Stranding and Volunteer Coordinator for FAU Harbor Branch Marine Mammal Rescue Team. He will be speaking on Friday February 10th at noon at the Manatee Center's Lunch & Learn Lecture. Burton runs the marine mammal rescue program for the FAU Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute in Fort Pierce, responding to calls of beachings, strandings, boat strikes and more of animals such as dolphins, whales, and manatees, as well as assisting in rehabilitation efforts for those animals. Marine mammal rescue is often idealized in movies and TV programs, but the reality of rescue and rehab is sometimes very different. Burton will be speaking about how real-life marine mammal rescues work, what his team’s greatest challenges and successes are, and how we as residents of a coastal community can lessen our impact on local marine mammals. This is a free program that begins at 12 noon. Bring your lunch and bring a friend!
