Saturday 05 November 2016, 11:00am - 06:00pm
Contact Manatee Center 772-429-6266

Do you know Moe?

Moe the Manatee is the wildly loved mascot of the Manatee Observation and Education Center (MOEC). You may have seen the super-sized Moe waving at his neighbors downtown or met his friend Mini Moe, (a plush toy replica) visiting different spots all over Fort Pierce.  Moe is celebrating his 20th birthday on Saturday, November 5th and wants you to join the celebration! Manatee Magic – Moe’s Big Birthday Bash offers a multitude of family-fun activities from 11am to 3pm: games, crafts, live animal demonstrations, story hour, book signing, Busch Wildlife, IRL Aquatic Preserve, FWC, face painting, food, Moe’s birthday party including yummy cake, and so much more! The party will continue from 3pm to 6pm, with food, the addition of adult libations and live music by Lex Groovius!  Plan on staying until the party is over because one lucky person will win the drawing for an original watercolor by renowned artist, Collen Nash Becht.  Her lovingly portrayed manatee portrait, “Mr. George” is dedicated to George Springer, one of MOEC’s very first volunteers!  Tickets for the painting are only $10 and are available through Treasure Coast Manatee Foundation’s website www.TCMFinc.org or through MOEC’s Vanishing Mermaid Gift Shop.

About the band: Lex Groovius is a Treasure Coast tour-de-force quartet playing music from back in the day (Hendrix, ZZ Top, James Gang) and today (Black Keys, Mofro). You know, GOOD music. Music that makes you move. As their name suggests, they are all about laying down the lex (law) of groove with extended jams and all members performing solos. The crowd cannot sit still when they bring the business.  Lex G features Paul "Guitar Doctor" Lowery on Telecaster guitar and vocals; Mike "Silver Bullet" Koors on Charvel guitar; Matt "Sharknado" Ajemian on bass; and Jeff "JB" Beal on drums and vocals.  Yeah, Lex G is a cover band...but this ain't your daddy's cover band.

For twenty years, MOEC has been teaching, guiding and inspiring stewardship of the Indian River Lagoon and its inhabitants.  Through innovative exhibits and displays, MOEC highlights the Treasure Coast’s unique local marine environment, including the endangered Florida manatee and other marine mammals and the opportunity to view them in their native habitat.  Come visit us at MOEC and wish us a Happy Birthday!
