Fly into the Manatee Center to Discuss Birding in SLC!
Friday, December 12 at 12 noon
Calling all local birding enthusiasts and environmentalists! Award winning conservationist and Audubon blogger, Hart Rufe, will share some sage advice on 'Birding in St. Lucie County' and offer opportunities to participate in the annual Christmas Bird Count. Hart began birding as a Boy Scout in the 1940's and has been at it ever since. He has been lauded as a conservation hero in his home state of Pennsylvania and is now a snowbird, living in Fort Pierce since 1999. Hart and his wife Jewel have led field trips and taught bird identification classes for St. Lucie Audubon. Hart is now in his third year of writing a birding blog called The Hart Beat which appears on the St. Lucie Audubon web page.
Lunch & Learn Lectures are held the second Friday of each month in the Manatee Center’s indoor classroom unless otherwise noted. Admission is free, so bring your lunch and bring a friend!

Our volunteers are busy! The manatees are here almost every day and there are visitors galore. There’s something for everyone at the Manatee Center whether you enjoy being inside or out, office work or gardening. Being a people person is a must!
Our volunteer recognition program is always active. Last month’s nature hike was a big hit and early December we’ll be hosting our Annual Holiday Luncheon where we will recognize hard work and dedication with a meal, a gift and togetherness.
